Headed by President Dr. Faisal Sinno, a Makassed delegation embarked on a significant trip to the Vatican, where they engaged in a series of impactful meetings aimed at highlighting the association’s mission and values on an international stage.
The delegation was first received by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State. The meeting with Cardinal Parolin focused on fostering educational cooperation between Makassed schools and Catholic institutions, aiming to cultivate a culture of national unity. Discussions also centered on the Vatican’s role in supporting Lebanon during its current crisis and promoting peace and coexistence in the Middle East.
Comprising Dr. Mohammad Al Sammak and Mrs. Dalia Salam, members of Makassed’s Board of Trustees, the delegation sought to underscore Makassed’s commitment to excellence in the fields of health and education on the global stage.
The following day, while the delegation did not have the opportunity for a private audience with Pope Francis due to his health condition, the Supreme Pontiff made sure to greet and discuss with the Makassed delegation at the end of the Vatican General Audience. During their encounter, Dr. Sinno presented a symbolic gift of Makassed’s armor and an embroidered mantle, crafted by the skilled hands of women at Ward Al Makassed empowerment center.
Additionally, Dr. Sinno and Dr. Sammak visited the Saudi Ambassador to Italy, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Sattam bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, where they discussed the importance of moderation in expressing the true goals of Islam and fostering dialogue and peace among communities.
Further reinforcing Makassed’s global outreach, Dr. Sinno and Dr. Sammak visited the headquarters of the Sant’Egidio Foundation, the largest Catholic institution globally which carries out humanitarian and awareness-raising initiatives in 70 countries. They explored avenues for collaboration in promoting peace, social justice, and educational initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized groups worldwide.
Through these impactful engagements, Makassed continues to shine a light on its mission and dedication to building a more just and inclusive society on both national and international fronts.
