A Makassed Academic Year Full of Activities And Achievements

Each year, Makassed students successfully achieve various extracurricular challenges. In addition to their academic excellence, students prove year after year that Makassed pays close attention to its students’ creativity and talents, enabling them to harvest several awards.

Yara Itani and Lea Kassab, grade 11 students at Khaled Bin Al Walid College, won the following prizes for their “Automatic System for Symptom Awareness and Response Aid -A.S.S.A.R.A”:

• The award for the Best Female Scientific Contribution in the scientific exhibition at Saint Joseph University USJ

• “Hikmat Nasser Award” for Innovation and Excellence

• The first rank in the Third Annual Exhibition organized by Beirut Arab University as well as a 70% university scholarship for the majors in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, and with a value of 40% for the majors in Computer Science, Biology, and Biochemistry.

Meanwhile, Khaled Bin Al Walid grade 9 student Yasmina Chahine obtained a patent for her project on the use of solar energy to reduce the environmental problems of water pollution, during an event organized in New York (USA) by RASIT. Yasmina is the first Lebanese girl to obtain that patent.

Students of Ali Ben Abi Taleb Al-Makassed College participated in the Arab Reading Challenge competition sponsored by His Highness Prince Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the year 2022-2023 for the seventh year in a row, and won distinguished positions in Beirut and Lebanon. Three students were qualified to travel to Dubai and participate in the closing ceremony.

Eighth Place in Lebanon: Rand Al MAsri (G7B)

Also, students of Ali Ben Abi Taleb Al-Makassed College achieved great success in this competition at the level of Beirut Governorate.

Ali Bin Abi Taleb student Lynn Ramadan won the first prize on a national level in MOS championship for Power Point category and the honor of representing Lebanon at the World Championship in Orlando, on July 31st.

The school’s students continue to achieve outstanding awards as Sabine Bakhsh was qualified as a Global Finalist for the Harvard Crimson Global Essay 2023 Competition! She was chosen along with 4 other young creative writers to represent the “Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, and Africa” region globally.

Omar Bin Al Khattab College participated and won notable ranks in the science competition “Moubarat Al Ouloum” organized by the National Association for Science & Research in two projects. The project, “Hypersonic Reusable Rocket”, in the Physics Category, presented by Ahmad Slayei, won the Silver Medal for secondary classes, and the project “Make the Perfect Shot in Basketball” in the Physical Sciences Category, presented by Ziad Khalil and Khodor Khalil, won the Bronze medal for intermediate classes.

In memorizing “Surat Yassine” Competition, OBK fifth grader, Hala Turjuman, won the first place across Makassed schools.

OBK Math teacher Samira Hifnawi won the first place in the Lebanese Innovative Educators-LIE, and our HOD, Rania Al Kebbi, was second among 60 participants from around 12 schools. Ms. Hifnawi will participate in the international competition in Istanbul (Türkiye).

Meanwhile, the Sports and Activities Unit held 92 tournaments among Makassed schools including football, basketball, handball, and volleyball for boys and girls across all grades. In addition to that, 56 friendly, official, and private tournaments were held outside Makassed in futsal, volleyball, handball, and basketball. The total number of participants reached 750 Makassed students.

The English Language Unit at Makassed also organized its annual MAK TALK event at Makassed Ali Bin Abi Taleb College. 12 speakers from all Makassed schools in Beirut presented different topics such as “Young but Strong”, “Twins”, “My Life at the Boarding School”, and “My Brain Stays Young with Music”.
